Emmy Award-winning actor-turned-cannabis farmer doesn’t consider himself a stoner, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t regularly enjoy the fruits of his labour.
Appearing virtually on Late Night with Seth Meyers this week, sitting on what appears to be a porch with his cannabis farm in the background, Belushi is asked if it’s true that he has never gotten high, eliciting laughs from the studio audience.

“Oh, no, I microdose. I do a little bit of Bhang chocolate, like 2.5 milligrams, to sleep at night,” he responds. “I do a little of my Cherry Pie (which he later describes as the marriage counsellor because it helps mellow out couples) at the end of the day. I just do a little bit to bring the anxiety down and also to help me sleep. But I’m not like a stoner.”

So what does Belushi have to be so anxious about? Pests.
In a clip of the second season of Growing Belushi, the new farmer can be seen getting to work to combat the weed nemeses.
Although he recently described his efforts to stop gophers and ground squirrels from getting high on his supply, insects have also proved an ongoing challenge.
The clip shows Belushi discussing neem, an oil pressed from neem tree seeds. The organic oil has been used for hundreds of years and reportedly helps to repel a variety of insects.
Seen picking up his wand of neem and approaching a cannabis plant, Belushi can be heard saying: “Okay. Here you go, ladies.”
With Meyers pointing out that Belushi had previously described himself as an accidental weed farmer, he asks the actor whether or not he’s getting the hang of his new growing gig.
Upfront as always, Belushi says: “You never get the hang of this. I mean, it is really farming,” adding that the second season of Growing Belushi is about overhauling the farm, from greenhouses to soil and the types of lights used.
That new knowledge is expected to come in handy as Belushi prepares for a new crop soon.
During the last season of the show, he relays that “we went down to Colombia and got these seeds for Danny Aykroyd,” half of the Blues Brothers duo that began with Aykroyd and Belushi’s brother, John, of Saturday Night Live, Animal House and The Blues Brothers fame.
Since his elder brother’s death 40 years ago, Belushi subs in when the Blues Brothers make an appearance.
“So I have these Colombian strains that we are 90 days from harvesting,” Belushi told Meyers.
The host jokes that the story of going down to Colombia to buy seeds for Aykroyd sounds like a mad lib, Belushi nods and laughs. “Well, he wanted a legendary seed to put the Blues Brothers on. He goes, ‘Jimmy, it’s a legendary brand, the Blues Brothers. We need a legendary seed.’ I went, all right.”

Last December, it was reported that Belushi would partner with the Massachusetts-based edible cannabis company, Plant Jam, to come up with a Blues Brothers, weed-infused ice cream to be available in the state.
In fact, U.S. restaurateur Guy Fieri, who was travelling in the area, recently stopped by the farm and Belushi treated him to a sample. “I made some Blues Brothers-infused ice cream for him,” he tells Meyers.
Fieri graciously reciprocated by setting up a kitchen outside and making the whole team, among other things, delectable barbecue ribs and clams.
Says Meyers: “I can’t imagine anything better, if you were stoned and having a case of the munchies, than Guy Fieri pulling up.”
Belushi responds, “Well, let’s just say we ate ourselves to sleep.”
The second season of Growing Belushi is currently airing on Discovery.
Blues Brothers Weed Seeds
Plant this mix to grow some of the most beautiful blue-colored flowers you’ve ever seen!
Wildflower establishment requires some important steps:
– Site selection/preparation: It’s important to address competition from weeds: pull, till, or use organic herbicides. If planting in the spring/summer you can wait for weeds to germinate, control and then plant the wildflower seeds.
– Seeding: You will want to have good seed to soil contact, broadcasting by hand is a good approach on small plot, may want to mix with an inert carrier, sand or other. Raking in and covering with soil 2-3 times seed thickness.
– Watering: During establishment for the first month, can be from rain in spring or supplement with irrigation.
– Timing: The best time to plant is in spring to early summer and even again in late fall.
