WATCH: Time-lapse footage captures smoke-filled haze blanket Bakersfield sky

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Time-lapse footage from KGET and Adventist Health’s roof camera captured the smoke-filled haze blanketing Bakersfield skies as wildfires burn across the state Thursday.

In the span of 5 hours, the view of the Stockdale Tower slowly darkens, until only the trace outline of the building and various trees in its forefront remain.

17’s Kevin Charette spoke about the affects of this smoke on air quality in our area Thursday morning on 17 News at Sunrise, and Chief Meteorologist Alissa Carlson will have an update on 17 News at 5 and 11.

Rosedale Union School District returning to distance learning amid rise in COVID-19 cases

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The Rosedale Union School District has announced it is returning to distance learning for all students beginning Monday amid a rise in COVID-19 cases and the state’s new stay-at-home order.

In a letter sent to families, Superintendent Sue Lemon said schools will transition back to distance learning between Monday and Friday except for Freedom Middle School, which is doing so on Thursday.

The annual Children’s Miracle Network Day of Giving is being held on Wednesday, Dec. 9 from 5 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the KGET 17 studios. Anchors Jim Scott and Tami Mlcoch will host the event, which supports children who are cared for at the Lauren Small Children’s Center at Memorial Hospital.
